Determining Mantel Dimensions

Fire regulations require a 12 inch space from the edge of your fireplace firebox to the closest edge of the mantel.  To determine the size of your mantel:

1.

Measure the width of your fireplace firebox.

2.

Add 24 inches to that measurement.  This would be your 'mantel width' requirement.

3.

Measure the height of your fireplace firebox from the floor or fireplace mantel.

4.

Add 12 inches to that measurement.  This would be your 'mantel height' requirement.
